An advisory board that works is not three people who agreed to advise you. It's three people with complementary functional depth, matched to the specific stage and challenges your company is navigating, operating on a cadence frequent enough to stay current with what you're dealing with, and structured to give input on real decisions – not retrospective wisdom on situations that have already resolved. The Founding tier is built around that definition. Each expert operator on your board is matched independently to a specific function – you're not getting three generalists, you're getting a GTM expert operator, a product expert operator, and a people/org expert operator (or whatever combination maps to your actual gaps). They operate separately and together; they don't replicate each other's input.
What's included in the Founding tier
The Founding tier includes two to three expert operators matched across your priority functions, bi-weekly structured sessions (twice the cadence of Access), async Q&A between sessions with all board members, priority matching – your intake goes to the top of the matching queue and you receive expert operator candidates within 7 business days – and intro network activation. Network activation means your expert operators are actively looking for introductions that are relevant to your current stage and challenges, not waiting for you to ask. Board members receive your profile and stage context during the matching process and identify intro opportunities as part of their onboarding. This is a structural difference from Access, where intro activation is reactive.
Who Founding is designed for
Growth-stage founders who have resolved the "do I need advisors" question and are now asking "how do I build a board that actually helps." Founders post-Series A who have the capital to invest in structured advisory and need expert operators who've been through the scale-up phase. Operators in transition – new VP or C-suite roles – who want a personal advisory board across multiple functions rather than a single mentor. The Founding tier requires a three-month minimum to allow the multi-member board structure time to mature. One-month advisory relationships produce diminishing returns at this depth of engagement.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is there a minimum contract length?
Advisory engagements are month-to-month with a 30-day notice period to adjust or pause. Scoped projects (30 or 60-day deliverable-based engagements) have defined start and end dates. There are no annual minimums for advisory structures.
Are there any placement or introduction fees?
No placement fees, no finder's fees, no introduction fees. Forward Share Ventures' model is engagement-based – you pay for the engagement, not the transaction of finding the right expert operator.
Can I upgrade or downgrade between tiers?
Yes. Tier changes take effect at the next monthly billing cycle with 15-day notice. Upgrading mid-cycle is available at a prorated rate. If circumstances change – a fundraise closes, a team joins, a function gap resolves – the engagement can be reconfigured without penalty.
How are expert operators compensated?
Expert operators receive a direct portion of the engagement fee – the structure is transparent to both parties. There's no equity component in advisory engagements unless specifically arranged as part of a separately negotiated advisor relationship outside the Forward Share Network fee structure.
What's the cancellation policy?
Advisory structures require 30-day written notice to cancel or pause. Scoped project fees are non-refundable after the scoping session, as the expert operator has allocated their availability to your engagement window. Sprint engagements that are canceled before the halfway point may be eligible for a partial credit toward a future engagement.
